Model year in a Nissan VIN
Japanese-built Nissans for this region often do not encode the year in position 10; use the build plate.
Buying a used Nissan
Popular models here: X-Trail, Navara, Patrol, Qashqai, Leaf, Pathfinder.
Used Leafs imported from Japan are cheap, but battery health varies a lot – ask for a battery report. A Navara that worked on a farm or mine site can have far more kilometres than the odometer shows.
Nissan VIN questions
Where was my Navara built?
Navaras for Australia and New Zealand come from Thailand, and their VINs start with MNT, the code of Nissan Motor Thailand. Some European Navaras were built in Spain and start with VSK.
Why does my imported Leaf have no JN1 VIN?
Leafs imported used from Japan carry a Japanese chassis number such as ZE0 or ZE1 followed by a serial. In New Zealand they usually also get a 7AT VIN from NZTA.
